Temporary Patient Registration

If you are ill while away from home, or not registered with a GP but need to see one, you can get emergency treatment from a local practice for up to 14 days.

You can also register as a temporary patient for up to 3 months. This means you:

  • stay on the list of your permanent GP

  • can still be seen by the local practice where you are staying

After 3 months, you will need to re-register as a temporary patient or register permanently.

How to register

  • Contact the local GP practice you want to use.

  • Practices do not have to accept temporary patients, but they must provide emergency treatment if it is needed.

  • You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the same town or area where you are already registered.

Homeless patients

You can register with us if you are homeless or have no fixed address, as long as you live within our practice boundary. You do not need proof of address or ID.
